Orphans to get a new home

Destitute and orphaned children in Verulam and surrounding areas will now have a new village to live in. The Lungisa Indlela is community project aimed at helping abandoned children who have now where else to go.

Tich Smith, one of the leaders of the project, said tht intention of the project is to maintain a good relationship with the community.

Multi media centre to help Waterloo community

The new Waterloo Primary School Media Centre has received rave reviews since its opening last year.

The centre is aimed at promoting access to quality education to previously disadvantaged children. The centre and the library at the school is expected to empower the youth in the Waterloo community to become more informed about their environment,

Local businesses and the eThekwini municipality came together in order to make the life of the learners in Waterloo Primary easier.

Fraudster caught in Verulam

A Durban hospice remains mum about a possible link an alleged con artist who was caught in Verulam in possession of suspected fake items.

The hospice president was reluctant to comment, however he did mention that they were aware of the matter.

Council urges public to renew their rebates

The eThekwini Municipality has announced that all recipients of pensioner's rebate to renew their rebates for the 2010/2011 financial year.

The municipality said in the statement the annual income and marriage status is not a requirement for the renewal process.

Inkatha Freedom Party slams new toll plaza

The Inkatha Freedom Party criticized the construction of a new toll plaza near the King Shaka International Airport. The IFp said this during the Economic Development ad Tourism budget briefing in the KwaZulu Natal legislature

:The toll plaza at the airport is nearing completion but no one in the provincial government has bothered to formally announce is construction, let alone enlist views of the public regarding its future operation," IFP spokesperson Lionel Mtshali said.

World Cup fever kicks off at Trubel

The FIFA 2010 World Cup competition involving 32 countries is set to kick off in South Africa in 85 days time.

On March 5, the Trubel primary in Tongaat kicked off its awareness campaign at the school.

A special assembly was held to highlight and map the way forward in order to celebrate 2010 World Cup.

Redcliffe residents see the light

Redcliffe residents can now breathe easy, knowing their electricity shortage problems will be a thing of the past. In a recent meeting between members of the local municipality and the Redcliffe community, it emerged that the main cause for the municipality to delay supplying electricity to the area was due to fact that landowners were reluctant to auction to the land to eThekwini municipality.

"More than 15 people have been electrocuted as a result of loose cables that were illegally connected,"said Justice Mhlongo of eThekwini Electricity Department.
